FRENCH MYP

Year 7 (G6) Inter-disciplinary unit with geography

Here are the in-class resources used to teach an inter-disciplinary unit between French and Geography at NLCS (Singapore). It is important to note that students had never studied French before (this was the first unit of the year). The unit includes:

  • Activities to describe your geographical environment, with a focus on French-speaking countries.
  • Grammar work on agreements and the conjugation of -ER verbs in French
  • Work on Francophones cuisines around the world.
  • For their assessments, students had to write a postcard on a French-speaking region of the world to describe it. (First part of their French assessment)
  • Then, they had to read the postcard others had done and translate it back into English (second part) to create a comparative fact sheet of the geographical features of the 2/3 countries they had to read about (geography part of the assessment)

Y11 (G10) Annual exam

This writing assessment is based on the second unit of the year (environment and world issues). It mimics the French B writing exam. Students were told in advance they would need to write a formal letter and we had studied this writing format in class.
